Niels Oldenburg came to Flamingo Beach, Costa Rica in 1981 and is known as one of its “Founding Fathers.” He was a key figure in opening up and developing what has come to be known as Flamingo’s Northern Ridge. Aside from building, remodeling, and expanding his 4-star hotel “Flamingo Marina Resort,” Niels has successfully completed 58 luxury oceanfront condominiums. Niels has over 50 year's of experience in the golfing world. He has played in the British Open, Rhodesian Open, Danish Open, Costa Rican Open and also the Central American Seniors' Open. He has long promised himself that one day he would make a luxurious golf course on the Central American Pacific coast. Four years ago Niels found a jewel in Nicaragua and called it Iguana Beach. “The day I arrived in Iguana by ox-cart and saw the natural beauty of the beach, the rivers, the land and, of course, the people, I knew this would be my signature development. I was not just going to break it up, sell it and walk away, I wanted Iguana to be a place people talk about not just in Nicaragua, but around the world.”
Francisco Wheelock was born and raised in Nicaragua. He received his Civil Engineering degree “Magna Cum Laude” from TexasA&MUniversity. He worked for Williams Gas Pipeline in Salt Lake City before deciding to return home. He has been building for the past two years at Iguana and Managua. Francisco is just completing the first phase of Iguana’s completely sold-out condos called “Villas Iguana.” Villas Iguana's total of twenty units range in size from 915 square feet up to 1,430 square feet. Furthermore, Francisco builds custom homes at Iguana. He is also the Project Engineer for Iguana and is highly involved with the infrastructure for the long haul. He works hand-in-hand with hydrological, waste and environmental specialists to make Iguana the premiere Coastal Resort in Nicaragua.
Ulrik Oldenburg, also a TexasA&MUniversity graduate in Communications, brings in 11 years of experience in resort management. He has worked as operations and sales manager for 7 of those years for the Flamingo Marina Resort and an additional two years at the 506 room hotel formerly know as the D/FW Harvey hotel in Dallas, Texas. Ulrik recently decided to join Iguana after seeing Costa Rica’s explosion in tourism and the number of expats now permanently residing in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. “I see what has happened in Guanacaste and strongly believe that we will see even more of this to come beginning now in the Rivas region of Nicaragua. The locals give you the warmest welcome and the biggest smile and make you feel at home…I love that! You have some of the most fantastic beaches here. Why would you live anywhere else?”
