Driving directions from the Managua airport to Hacienda Iguana
Driving Instructions from MGA Airport
From the airport turn right, go straight all the way toward Tipitapa. You will come to an intersection that is signed to the right for Masaya. Don't be afraid to ask for directions, don't be afraid of police, most everyone will help you. Take the road to Masaya several miles till it deadends. Turn left. Go straight. Follow this nice road along the outskirts of Masaya for a couple miles. When you come to the first round a bout, go right. It is just past a sign that refers to Aeropuerto Cafe, although there is no airport around. Continue along this road, around and over potholes. Stay on main road, up past Catarina and down. Turn right, after several miles at Granada/Nandaime intersection. This will be a long, wide, swooping right. Follow a few more miles and turn left at Nandaime/Jinotepe intersection. You are going through Nandaime. Follow straight for many miles to Rivas. As you come into Rivas take first big right, which will have signs for Hacienda Iguana, Rancho Santana, Arenas Tola, Tola. Go a mile, or so, and take a right at stop sign, should be signs for the former or you are going to Tola. Follow the road through Tola. Turn left at the stop sign past the park. Turn right in about 2 blocks, following signs. Stay on main dirt road toward Hacienda Iguana or Rancho Santana. Turn left at Iguana gate. You'll need to tell the guard you are renting a condo.
You should stop in Rivas for groceries and bottled water Ask for the Pali super market.
Driving Directions
Starting at the Intercontinental Managua Hotel in Managua:
- Take Carretera Masaya South, you'll go through Masaya
- In Masaya take a right towards Catarina, this part of the road is a bit of a climb. You'll end up in Catarina, where you keep going straight.
- When you get to Volcan Mombacho (you'll see it) take a right on the fork in the road, that will take you to Nandaime.
- When you get to Nandaime take a left in the fork, that takes you to Rivas.
- Just before you get to Rivas (it is around kilometer 112) there is a sign for Tola, take a right there, you will be heading West.
- From Tola continue west on the gravel road to the gate of Hacienda Iguana (15 kilometers or about 50 minutes). There's a huge Mango tree just before the entrance. Here you'll see the first Rancho Santana sign. All you have to do is follow the Santana signs and that will take you to Iguana. Iguana is about 6 km. before Santana, (and about 15 km from the start of the dirt road). You will see two yellow security cabins and a wooden gate.
Give yourself about 2.5 - 3 hours driving time. The total distance is 135 km.
